The G8 Summit was held in Muskoka, Ontario,  in June 2010, and brought together the Heads of Government of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. At the conclusion of G8, the G20 Summit was held nearby in downtown Toronto, attended by representatives of 42 nations and international organizations. The purpose of both summits was to discuss a wide range of international economic, political and social issues and in particular, the global financial crisis.

Due to the eminence of the attendees, the significance to world development and the likelihood of widespread demonstrations by interest groups and protestors, the G8/G20 summits required the highest possible level of security and vigilance.

For both these events, CI’s mandate was to provide personnel and equipment for airport-style security screening at the perimeter of all venues including hotels, meeting sites and the main media centre. Working closely with the RCMP, we developed plans to provide an integrated operation in an environment where multiple international stakeholders and law enforcement agencies were in place.
